Kascondra Hushbeck

Kascondra made a big cross-country move from California to the Piedmont Triad area in 2023, which led her to her salon home at Alkali. Deep down, she always knew she wanted to be a hairstylist, and like many of her peers, she never had a Barbie who didn’t get a haircut.

In 2007, she started her professional beauty career as an assistant to a seasoned hair veteran named Karla Chancellor, who became Kascondra’s first mentor and forever “salon mama.” Not long after that, Kascondra became a full-time stylist and has been happily doing hair ever since.

One of her favorite hair services is formal styling, especially for weddings. She adores the sculpting behind updos and styling. She also loves hair coloring—especially copper tones!

She’s tackled many hair emergencies over the years, but her biggest challenge was correcting a client’s permanent black hair color to silver. It was a massive undertaking but the results were exceptionally satisfying. When it comes to her own hair, Kascondra’s worst hairstyle was an uneven A-line cut. And we’re not talking just a little uneven, either. As for her favorite hairstyle, she loves a good pixie cut.

Kascondra’s favorite hair products are Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray. Dry Texturizing Spray for how it gives you that perfect touseled look; Après because as the name implies, it gives you that beach look and can be used on damp or dry hair and most hair textures.

When she’s not busy making you beautiful, Kascondra loves baking mouthwatering dishes and working around on her family’s farm. She loves the color green, reading books, and is a hippie at heart. She loves swapping gardening tips, recipes, and other “Grannie” things.

• Dry your roots! It's worth the little bit of effort for the volume

• Use color-safe shampoo with tepid water

• Don't sleep in a ponytail

• If you are going to heat style your hair, use heat protection
