Maxine was born in Brooklyn, New York to Trinidadian parents and lived in Miami for a bit before moving to the Winston-Salem area in 2017. But wherever she lives, she’ll never be without food or light. She loves gardening and making candles. She’s also fully prepared for a zombie apocalypse—let a zombie mess around and find out!

While you may know Maxine from guest services at Alkali, you may not know that she has over 25 years of experience in the salon and spa industry—10 of which she was a licensed and practicing esthetician! Let’s just say she knows a thing or two about hair and skin. She was initially drawn to skin care when she realized how much the appearance of people’s skin meant to them and how much it could boost their confidence.

Maxine’s favorite skin service is the Hydrafacial. As she puts it, “Who wouldn’t want to glow like the top of the Chrysler building?”

Her favorite hairstyle is rocking her natural hair. She didn’t always love it, but that was because she didn’t know how to care for it in its natural state. Now that she does, she’ll never straighten her hair again! Davines Love Curl Primer and Curl Mask are two of her favorite products as they do wonders for her 4C hair type.

Maxine’s worst hairstyle was when she had a Jheri curl, which she fully blames on Michael Jackson.

Besides gardening and candle making, Maxine loves cooking and listening to music. She has a big sweet tooth, and her favorite colors are pink and turquoise.
