FAQ

FAQ

Why Does Alkali Have an Open Float Tank?

We chose an open float tank to ensure your comfort and to prevent feelings of claustrophobia. It's also beneficial for those struggling with severe PTSD. The room is also nice and spacious to help alleviate or prevent feelings of being closed in or constricted.  You are also in complete control of lighting once you begin floating as well. Turn on the soft LED lighting or turn them off based on your comfort level and desired experience. Rest assured, you still get all the benefits of sensory deprivation, as the float room is dark and quiet.

What If I Start to Feel Claustrophobic or Uncomfortable

We encourage you to try to relax first, but you may get out of tank at any time if you start feeling anxiety or uncomfortable.

How Often Should I Float?

That is entirely up to you. You'll notice the benefits after just one float. However, you'll see even better results from a series of floats or regular usage.

Is My Float Private?

Yes! You will have the float room all to yourself once Guest Services has given you instructions and ensured you're all set up and ready to float. The door to the room will also be locked, so you won't be disturbed.

What Position Should I Float in?

There's no wrong way to float. It's more about what makes you feel the most comfortable. However, here are a few positions we recommend trying:

  • Hands behind your head

  • Hands at your sides

  • Hands folded across your chest

  • Hands up, beside your head

  • Hands crossed over your stomach

How Do I Know Alkali's Float Tank is Sanitary and Safe?

We take cleanliness and sanitation very seriously. Our float tank is naturally antibacterial and contains 1,000 pounds of magnesium sulfate. Magnesium sulfate levels are closely monitored and replaced frequently to ensure our guests have a safe, clean environment. We follow all local and federal health guidelines at all times.

Will I Have "Pruney" Skin After Floating?
Nope. Because of the high concentration of Epsom salt in the tank, your skin won't wrinkle and will feel soft and smooth after your float instead. One of the many amazing benefits of floating!

What Happens If I Fall Asleep? Will I Drown?

Falling asleep during a float is normal and nothing to fear. In fact, it has the added benefit of helping you get some much-needed rest. Many guests float for this very reason, as it promotes deep relaxation during the float and improves sleep afterward. Think of it as nap time with extra benefits. The magnesium sulfate makes the water dense and keeps you buoyant, so you won't flip over or sink.

Can I Float After Coloring My Hair?

Floating directly after a color service is not recommended. You should wait until the water runs clear after shampooing at home before floating. In other words, if you see hair color in the shower, do not float yet! We recommend wearing a cap while floating to protect your color investment regardless.

Can I Float While Menstruating?

Absolutely! During mensuration, you would just follow the same protocols for swimming in a pool.

Are There Any Health Restrictions For Floating?

You may need to avoid floating if you have certain medical or skin conditions, such as kidney disease, open wounds, contagious diseases, and epilepsy. Please let us know if you have any medical concerns prior to scheduling your float appointment. We also recommend consulting with your doctor to ensure floating is safe for your specific condition(s).
