There’s a well-known anonymous quote that says: “A good stylist is cheaper than a good therapist.” Most stylists seem to have a special talent for dealing with people, and this couldn’t be more true when it comes to Julie—she graduated with a psychology degree before she discovered her love for the beauty industry! While she doesn’t technically provide therapy to her clients, Julie considers a successful day to be one in which her clients leave looking better but feeling more relaxed and confident.
Julie was raised in central Illinois, and while she went to college for psychology, her childhood dream (inspired by the Madonna “vogue” era), had always been to be a hairstylist. After completing school, she moved to Chicago and as fate would have it, she was hired as a receptionist at a popular full-service salon. While working as a salon receptionist, she quickly discovered her passion for hair and began attending cosmetology school.
After graduating, she became a stylist and worked for this same salon for over a decade before becoming an independent stylist for several years. In 2017, Julie moved to the Winston-Salem area and found her new salon home at Alkali Hair Studio, where she loves her new salon family and the wonderful clients she’s had the pleasure of working with.
Her specialty is helping people solve their hair problems and achieve their goals—this is especially true for color. Julie doesn't just do amazing hair coloring, she also makes sure you understand how color works and helps you choose the best and most realistic look for your hair texture, lifestyle, budget, and desired maintenance schedule.
Julie loves working with Oribe and Davines products. Oribe for its versatility and incredibly high performance; Davines for its locally sourced ingredients, amazing scents, and performance. Her current favorite product is Oribe's Rock Hard Gel. But don't let the name fool you! The reason she loves it? Because it gives amazing memory and shine, while also making the hair bouncy and full of body—perfect for blowouts. Another of her favorites is Thick Dry Texturizing Spray. It provides a fun texture without making the hair feel dirty or heavy.
Julie's Top At-Home Hair Tip:
-
Use Oribe Cleansing Crème between shampoos!
If you're like Julie and can’t shampoo every day but are active, you can use Cleaning Crème instead of shampooing. This lets you limit washes to two times a week and she can speak from experience that it's been a game-changer for her in keeping her hair healthy. Many people think shampooing or having dirty hair are their only options. That's simply not true with the right product!

While Julie has always focused on delivering beautiful colors and maintaining the health and integrity of the hair, this certification provided her with a new scientific approach to hair coloring for even more stunning results.
